Cruise cancellations are always frustrating, especially when passengers receive little explanation for the change. Even when a cruise line provides advance notice, affected passengers may still need to cancel flights and hotel reservations, with no guarantee that they’ll receive refunds for those additional expenses.
That’s unfortunately what is happening to guests booked aboard one of Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ships. The company has removed nine sailings scheduled for the second half of 2027. However, another change involving the same ship has led passengers to believe that Carnival may have alternate plans for the newly opened dates, possibly involving new age restrictions.
Carnival Jubilee Loses Nine 2027 Sailings For “Operational Reasons”
Carnival Cruise Line has canceled nine Carnival Jubilee sailings scheduled between August and December 2027. According to Cruise Spotlight, passengers booked on the affected sailings started receiving emails about the changes on July 22.

- August 29, 2027
- September 12, 2027
- September 18, 2027
- September 26, 2027
- November 27, 2027
- December 5, 2027
- December 11, 2027
In the notice, Carnival Vice President of Guest Services Colleen Oliverio stated that the cancellations were due to “operational reasons.”
All nine canceled sailings were scheduled to leave from Galveston, Texas, a port that operates Western Caribbean itineraries lasting six, seven, or eight days.

Many cruisers have yet to receive a more detailed explanation for why the sailings have been removed. However, changes made to another Jubilee sailing have led some travelers to believe that the cancellations may be part of a broader age restriction on board.
One Carnival Jubilee Sailing Receives A New Age Restriction
The gaps in Carnival Jubilee’s schedule are attracting attention because Carnival has already made a major change to another sailing aboard the same ship. Passengers booked on the September 4 sailing were also recently informed that everyone onboard must be at least 21 years old.
“We have made operational changes to your voyage — the sailing will now be exclusively for guests 21 years and older. We recognize this cruise may no longer meet your vacation needs, particularly if you were planning to travel with guests under the age of 21 years, and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause,” according to the notice received by guests.
Travelers who meet the age requirement can reportedly remain on the sailing without taking further action. However, reservations with missing birthdates or unnamed passengers will need to be updated by August 5, or they could be canceled.
Passengers traveling with someone younger than 21 have until the same date to contact Carnival or their travel advisor. These guests will be allowed to move to a comparable sailing with similar accommodations and receive fare protection and up to $100 in onboard credit per stateroom.
Those who choose to cancel can instead receive a full refund of their cruise fare and prepaid purchases, including nonrefundable deposits.
TheTravel contacted Carnival for clarification on whether more sailings aboard the ship will receive the same age restriction, but did not receive a response in time for publication. However, passengers are speculating that this could be the case.
The theory isn’t based only on the changes aboard Carnival Jubilee. Earlier this year, Carnival canceled several cruises on another ship before announcing age-restricted cruises.
Carnival Previously Replaced Canceled Cruises With 21-And-Older Voyages
Carnival made a similar series of changes aboard Carnival Firenze earlier in 2026. The cruise line initially canceled 11 voyages scheduled between October 12 and November 16, then later announced that the ship would operate four Sailings Exclusively for Adults during the same period. Known as SEA cruises, these voyages are restricted to guests aged 21 and older.
Carnival confirmed the changes to People, stating, “Carnival will be offering four new sailings for Carnival Firenze from Long Beach between Oct. 12 and Nov. 20, 2026. These sailings are part of our Sailings Exclusively for Adults (SEA) program and will be available only to guests who receive a targeted offer.”
What Do SEA Voyages Offer?
Carnival’s 21-and-over SEA voyages offer themed parties, additional casino access, out-of-the-ordinary entertainment, and upgraded dining experiences. Although SEA cruises have traditionally been invite-only, the recent canceled sailings opened them up to additional cruisers.
These kinds of cruises are also a big hit with loyal Carnival fans, many of whom say they enjoy relaxing in a kid-free atmosphere.

- I did a 10-day SEA cruise on Paradise, and it was one of the best cruises I’ve ever been on! I would love to ONLY do SEA cruises! The themed events, better food choices, and atmosphere were like one big happy family.
- That would be great! No kids running down the halls screaming or hogging the hot tubs and pool.
- We went on a SEA cruise and it was so peaceful. Had a talk with a security gentleman, and he said the SEA cruises have [fewer] immature people and a more stable group.
Ultimately, the direction in which Carnival Firenze went earlier this year helps explain why passengers are speculating that there will be a possible expansion of the program. Nevertheless, only time will tell whether this is the reason for the nine Jubilee cancellations.
