Over the last few days, Carnival Cruise Line guests have had unique experiences on board. The Carnival Adventure was cancelled due to a technical malfunction and beetles… yes, beetles. According to a letter sent to passengers, the Vanuatu government deemed the potential transport of beetles dangerous.
The letter stated, “Vanuatu’s biosecurity regulation states that vessels are unable to travel to another island within Vanuatu after dark because of the potential risk of transporting a beetle that can damage coconut trees.”
In another incident, although this particular cruise wasn’t cancelled, a Carnival guest went viral for recording a disturbing moment that recently took place in the buffet area. In this incident, a Carnival guest was caught not only breaking the cruise line’s wardrobe rules, but also putting others at risk with a disturbing use of their fork on their foot.
Carnival Cruise Line’s wardrobe rules are basic. For footwear during the daytime, the cruise line recommends, “Comfortable rubber-sole flat shoes, sneakers, water shoes or non-slip boat shoes with traction.”
Its rules are clear, no matter what the time of the day, guests are banned from being barefoot.
“Basic rules still apply no matter the time of day – no swimsuits, wet clothes, or bare feet.”
Not only did one guest break the rules in the buffet area, but she took things to another level in a moment that has now gone viral, with thousands of cruise enthusiasts commenting.
On a recent Travel Scouts upload, Jason discussed the incident at the start of the video. The passenger is shown scrapping their foot, while later using a fork to scratch. The incident took place on a Carnival ship.
Jason revealed, “A video is going viral online after some unsanitary cruise passenger behavior is captured on video. The video was filmed by an Instagram user named Lucky Charmed Court. It appears to be in the buffet area on board a Carnival cruise ship. Carnival staff can be seen in the background.”
To make matters worse, the passenger uses the same hand that they used on their foot to finish their plate with. The situation only got worse when the guest’s fork was used for a deeper dig into her foot. The incident went on for an extended period.
Jason continues, “The cruiser goes to great lengths using their hand to scratch their issue. A lot of comments are generated online after the passenger appears to use the same hand to continue eating from their plate. If that is not enough, the Instagram user has a follow on video that shows the individual continuing and this time using a fork from the table to dig into that foot. And that continues for quite a while.”
The incident generated hundreds of reactions online, with cruisers outraged. Many are calling for a complete ban on the guest, while others are concerned that even washing the fork just won’t be enough.

Not only are cruisers pushing for a ban, but others have stated that the behavior of the guest was reckless, and one that could be spread to other passengers, especially when not following the rules and walking barefoot on the cruise.
One commenter wrote, “My wife is a nurse with a specialization in foot care. She says this is Tinea Pedis, commonly known as Athlete’s Foot. Athlete’s Foot, of course, is highly contagious and this woman should not be walking barefoot anywhere, as others walking or standing in the same area after her can pick up the fungal infection. She should, most definitely, be banned from cruising after using a fork to scratch herself. It’s disgusting and unsanitary.”
Another commenter suggested that a staff member from Carnival should have been called over immediately to stop the incident.
“If I had witnessed the fork lady, I would have called over one of the staff and have them address the issue immediately. Not only is such activity gross and unsanitary, it is TOTALLY unacceptable anywhere on the ship. It takes a special type of low character person to perform that way.”
Others hope the individual is identified, while many believe it is just another reason to skip out on cruise buffets.

Although Carnival Cruise Line has not issued a direct statement regarding the incident, the company does have direct conduct rules that are expected to be followed by all guests.
Carnival Cruise Line’s Stance On Conduct
Although Carnival did not react, its rules are clear. As stated earlier, the cruise line has strict wardrobe bans requiring passengers to wear footwear at all times. Additionally, all passengers must follow its code of conduct or risk being removed from the ship or even being fined.
Carnival writes on its website, “Consistent with our commitment to safety, disruptive behavior is not tolerated and any guest whose conduct affects the comfort, enjoyment, safety or well-being of other guests or crew will be disembarked at their own expense and banned from sailing on Carnival in the future. All guests must acknowledge and commit to our code of conduct during the check-in process, and any violation may result in a fine of $500, possible stateroom confinement and removal from the ship. Guest may also be liable for reimbursement of expenses incurred by Carnival as a result of the detainment or disembarkation.”
In this case, an argument can be made that the behavior was both disruptive and also impacted the well-being of other guests on the ship. Not an ideal situation, and the hope is that the Carnival Cruise Line staff thoroughly washed the fork after the cruise passenger used it.
