On both July 30 and July 31, Delta Air Lines had the most flight cancellations among all U.S. airlines. The carrier has faced ongoing issues throughout the week, with its major hub, LaGuardia Airport, cancelling more than half of its flights.
The carrier wasn’t alone in its struggles, as American Airlines also faced a nationwide IT outage. American Airlines has now restored its service, while Delta Air Lines continues to cancel the most flights. Looking ahead to Saturday, the carrier already has the most cancellations among all airlines.

In response to the weekend cancellations, Delta is offering customers flexible rebooking options, with cancellations set to increase for flights at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the carrier’s biggest hub.
Delta Air Lines’ Trend Of Cancellations Continues
On Thursday, Delta Air Lines had the most cancelled flights among all U.S. airlines. According to FlightAware numbers, the carrier had 43 cancelled flights, fueled by disruptions at Boston Logan International Airport and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Among the other U.S. airlines on Thursday, JetBlue was the closest to Delta in terms of cancelled flights with 33. JetBlue also experienced disruptions at BOS.
On Friday, Delta Air Lines has continued its high cancellation totals. This time, the carrier has the most cancellations among all airlines and, for the second day in a row, the most cancelled flights among all U.S. airlines. Delta’s 54 cancellations are by far the most among U.S. airlines.

With another 40 cancelled flights already announced for Saturday, it is more than likely that Delta will have the most flight cancellations for a third day in a row. With expected disruptions at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Saturday, Delta’s weekend cancellation totals may only increase, depending on how severe the weather situation is in Atlanta.
For now, Delta customers are reporting issues and frustrating experiences flying with the carrier.
How Delta Air Lines Customers Have Reacted To The Recent Disruptions
Delta customers faced weather-related delays. However, for one passenger, the delays lasted over eight hours despite the weather clearing up. The issues were beyond Delta’s control, as flights to Boston in particular were under a ground delay.
The passenger wrote on X, “Hey @Delta, I understand you don’t control the weather. I’m in Tampa. The weather was terrible earlier. I’m trying to get to Boston. The skies are clear here now. Why do you keep delaying my flight? Over 8 1/2 hours now.”
Traveler Denis Lemieux faced two major disruptions on the same day on July 30. The Delta customer had a flight cancelled and later, one of the carrier’s aircraft broke down.
“@Delta cancelled my first flight and had my plane break down for the second leg. Diamond Medallion must mean nothing- missing half a day of my cousin’s Bach trip. Unacceptable,” Lemieux wrote.
It wasn’t all bad news for Delta customers. Despite mechanical issues, traveler Michael Carbenia credited Delta for taking care of the situation and booking a hotel during the disruption.
“Credit where credit is due! Thanks @Delta for taking care of my hotel, had a mechanical issue and my day was completely ruined as. Meetings lost. It’s the simple things, mechanical issues do happen and I appreciate the great customer service! #diamondmedallion.”
In response to more upcoming disruptions, Delta Air Lines is providing passengers with flexible rebooking, particularly for flights out of its biggest hub.
Delta Air Lines Is Providing Passengers At ATL With Flexible Rebooking Over The Weekend
Delta Air Lines updated its travel alerts page with new information regarding rebooking for its flights to/through/from Atlanta. Due to thunderstorms, Delta is offering customers flexible rebooking on August 1 and August 2 flights.
“To support customers during the forecasted Thunderstorms affecting the Atlanta area, travel to, from, or through the destinations listed below may be affected. Check flight status frequently for up-to-the-minute information about your flight plans, or get updates sent directly to your mobile device or by email with One-Time Notification,” Delta wrote on its alerts page.
The new ticket must be rebooked by August 4, 2026, in order for Delta to waive the change fees. The airline adds that the new flight must include the same destination and cabin.
“When rebooked travel occurs on or before August 4, 2026, in the same cabin of service as originally booked, the fare difference will be waived. A fare difference may apply when the waiver is class to class restrictive and the original booking class is not maintained in the rebooked itinerary. When rebooked travel occurs after August 4, 2026, a difference in fare may apply,” the carrier added.
Due to an increase in flight cancellations, especially compared to other U.S. airlines, TheTravel has contacted Delta for a statement regarding the increase. However, the carrier did not respond in time for publication.
