Delta And JetBlue Face The Most Cancellations Worldwide As FAA Grounds Flights For 2 Days In A Row At Multiple U.S. Airports

Endeavor Air, which operates Delta Air Lines’ regional services under the Delta Connection brand, and JetBlue are facing the highest number of flight cancellations of any airline worldwide on Tuesday morning after two consecutive days of widespread weather disruption.

The severe weather has forced ground stops and ground delays from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Monday and Tuesday. JetBlue’s latest operational challenges also come after the carrier topped the list of airlines with the most cancellations last week.

While the two airlines currently lead the world’s cancellation rankings, this may change as the day progresses. With FAA ground stops already in place at several major U.S. airports, disruption is expected to increase for these carriers, as well as others, across the United States.

JetBlue’s disruptions have escalated dramatically between Monday and Tuesday morning as the airline struggles to contend with severe weather, ground stops, and recover from yesterday’s operational challenges.

According to FlightAware, JetBlue had 377 delayed flights on July 27, while a further 52 flights were canceled. However, by 6:00 AM EST on July 28, this had risen dramatically. The airline has already canceled 223 flights and has 29 delayed flights, making JetBlue the airline with the most canceled flights at the time of writing.

A large portion of JetBlue’s cancellations are coming from its major East Coast hubs in New York and Boston. John F. Kennedy International Airport has already reported 139 JetBlue cancellations, while Boston Logan has reported 53 JetBlue cancellations.

According to the National Weather Service, flash flooding and severe thunderstorms are expected to continue in the Northeast for the next few days. JetBlue updated its travel alerts page on July 27, stating:

“Severe weather is expected across the New York metro and may affect travel.”

The airline has promised to waive change/cancel fees and fare differences for customers traveling on JetBlue-operated flights from Monday, July 27 through Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to/from the following cities:

  • Long Island/Islip, NY (ISP)
  • New York, NY (JFK)
  • New York, NY (LGA)
  • Newark, NJ (EWR)
  • Westchester County, NY (HPN)

Meanwhile, Endeavor Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines that operates Delta’s regional flights under the brand name Delta Connection, is also feeling knock-on effects from the weather.

The airline currently has 252 flights canceled (30% of its network) and 46 flights delayed. Most of these cancellations have come from Delta’s major hub, LaGuardia Airport, which has recently seen more canceled flights than any other airport after thunderstorms and heavy rain in the Northeast.

While JetBlue and Endeavor Air currently have the most cancellations worldwide, as the day progresses, these numbers could change. Delay and cancellation figures for major airlines are expected to rise throughout the day as operational knock-on effects spread across carrier networks.

JetBlue and Endeavor Air’s disruptions follow two days of FAA traffic management measures affecting some of the country’s busiest airports. According to the FAA Air Traffic Control Command Center, several major airports saw ground stops or ground delays implemented on July 27, including:

  • New York LaGuardia (LGA)
  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • New York (JFK)
  • Teterboro (TEB)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
  • Chicago Midway (MDW)
  • Washington Dulles (IAD)
  • Orlando (MCO)
  • Tampa (TPA)
  • Philadelphia (PHL)

These operational restrictions have continued into July 28, with the FAA listing ground stops or ground delays for:

  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • New York (JFK)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • San Diego (SAN)
  • Philadelphia (PHL)

Ground stops prevent aircraft from departing for affected airports until conditions improve, while ground delays intentionally slow departures in order to safely manage congestion. While these are put in place to keep airspace operating safely, they can create widespread disruptions.

Although JetBlue and Endeavor Air currently have the highest number of cancellations, they are far from the only airlines facing challenges. On both Monday, July 27, and Tuesday, July 28, several major U.S. carriers reported disruptions.
