WestJet passengers are currently facing mass cancellations. On August 2, 2026, the airline confirmed it has suspended flights. The only available options are currently with WestJet Encore.

“We are disappointed to share that due to labour disruption, WestJet flights have been suspended effective August 2, 2026, at 12:01 a.m. MDT. WestJet Encore flights continue to operate. We deeply regret the impact this is having on our guests’ travel plans,” the airline confirmed on X.

With the announcement, WestJet has cancelled the majority of its flights on Sunday. Customers are reacting to the strike cancellations, being left stranded over the last 48 hours.

WestJet Has Cancelled More Than 500 Flights Over The Last Two Days

WestJet’s cancellations have picked up over the last two days. On Saturday, the carrier cancelled 23% of its flights, according to data from FlightAware. In total, the airline cancelled 115 flights. However, on Sunday, the cancellation total increased significantly again. The Canadian carrier has cancelled 447 flights so far, which is 90% of its total flight volume for August 2. For both August 1 and August 2, WestJet had the most cancelled flights among all airlines.

Looking ahead to Monday, WestJet has already taken more precautions. The carrier currently has 67 cancelled flights. If an agreement isn’t reached by August 2, the numbers will once again increase on Monday, and WestJet will be forced to cancel most of its flights.

The airline’s recent disruptions are affecting thousands of customers. Reactions to WestJet’s rebooking option have been mixed, with many travelers upset with the company’s customer service during a difficult period for the carrier.

WestJet has left thousands stranded, with questionable rebooking alternatives. Traveler Hunter Donn saw his flight get cancelled at Toronto Pearson International Airport, while his rebooking alternative was scheduled for a flight in Calgary.

“@WestJet you cancelled our flight from YYZ to YXE to leave tonight at 11pm. You rebooked us a flight from Calgary to Saskatoon tomorrow morning. Can you please explain how we are getting to Calgary? Currently homeless in Toronto,” he wrote on X.

Donn paid $600 for a hotel room in Toronto, while WestJet’s aid was limited, booking him on another flight after the strike on August 3.

Traveler Jeneisa was also forced to reroute and faced a layover of over 12 hours. The WestJet customer took exception to how the disruption was taken care of.

@WestJet Extremely disappointed with how this flight change was handled. Passengers have jobs, responsibilities, and lives to get back to. I was rerouted into a 12+ hour overnight layover in Montreal instead of being given a reasonable option. This has caused unnecessary stress.

Air Canada has offered WestJet customers alternatives during the upcoming days. The carrier is offering WestJet passengers rebooking options.

If you’ve not yet been rebooked by WestJet: You will need to contact WestJet external site which may not meet accessibility guidelines and/or language preferences. directly. During WestJet’s strike, the major Canadian airports have been affected. Calgary International Airport, WestJet’s major hub, continues to cancel the most flights out of all airports worldwide as the strike continues.

WestJet just released an update regarding its ongoing flight cancellations. The carrier confirmed that it has extended its flexible change and cancel options until August 5. Customers can make changes at no added cost. For now, the airline says it will “continue to evaluate additional extensions on a daily basis.”

TheTravel has reached out to WestJet regarding its ongoing cancellations into next week, but the carrier did not respond in time for publishing.
