Later, the police found Sharon sitting at a charging station. When asked if she had been in the store, she said no. But then the excuses kept coming out once the police brought up what they had seen on the security cameras.
“I picked something up, and I put it back down,” Sharon said, referring to some gold earrings. The police asked again if she might have “accidentally” taken anything, but she kept insisting that she had only tried some items, checked prices, and compared them with their own. The officers then asked for her consent to search her bags. But despite repeatedly being told to step back, Sharon continued to reach into her bags, saying she was only taking out her cash and some personal belongings.
